Commercial sign usage is constantly visible virtually almost anywhere in the world, both inside and outside of businesses, and in places that are not as common. Neon, with its warm, soft colors that are pleasing to the eye, becomes an instant flash when it hits the prospective buyer in the form of neon signs that are often difficult to ignore. The serve their purpose well in drawing the public into stores and businesses. Yes, that's all well and good you say but what has all that to do with me? What am I going to do with neon in my home?

Surprise! You may well already have neon in your home although not on the same level as using neon lighting for decorative purposes. Neon is now used in phones and cameras. A small amount of neon can be found in fluorescent lights today. Neon, in the form of low low lamps, is used to show on/off settings and other functions in small appliances and electronic instrument panels. Many wall switches in homes are illuminated by neon. Computers have also found a use for these small, lightweight neon lamps.

Television tubes use neon. In fact,  at the first practical demonstartion of color television in 1928 the light source of the reveiver consisted of a neon tube for the color red plus mercury-vapor and helium discharge tubes for blue and green. Today's television owes its existence to the employment of neon lighting.

The same sensual effect of neon's warm, soff, colors have been transfered into the home which has resulted in a whole new explosion of innovative ideas in home decor. Neon in the home is not, by any means a recent idea, since neon wall clocks have been around from their start in the 1930's to their appearance in stores, bars, and businesses in the 1940's when they became very popular a trend that continues to today where they are commonplace in many homes.

How did they start and where did they start? The first neon wall clock was made by the Electric Clock Company of Cleveland, Ohio which produced the clocks in many types and colors. The Aztec Neon Wall.Clock has become an icon.Later on the use of powder-coated cases made them more appealing.

Now, how does the use of neon fit into home decor? Neon, no matter whether it is used in the home or in businesses has the same characteristics. Its subtle, friendly glow can brighten the dark area of any room and enhance any decor. Objects nade of neon can be easily moved to any location in your home. or even to your garage. Neon light allows you to change the look of any room without painting.

Neon signs in your home can add a personal touch. You can create your own design like your favorite beverage for your bar or any design that has a special meaning to you. They can liven up your family room or game room with the exiting effect they can excude.

Neon art offer another way to beautify your home. It is a novel way for an art lover to use to highlight a room with a wide choice of many designs done in an attractive blend of colors that can be pleasing to the eye without attempting a message. It can be done in large or small sizes depending on individual needs.

Neon lighting is another way to ad life to any room or location. It adds a touch of elegance and its ability to change colors adds a vibrant look to any place that it is used. Its uniqueness allows it to make a stylish statement to all that see it. Neon lighting design is considered by many to be one of the most important elements in determining the look and feel of a room. It can supply a nice, colorful, contrast to dark areas while often making a room seem warm and cozy.

Yet another idea is neon sculpture which is three dimensional. The neon is formed much the same as it is for and  of these other ideas into any design desired allowing it to be hung on a wall or stand on its own. Seasonal themes are very popular in this type of usage.

No matter how neon is used in home decor it has the same benefits. Many homeowners have incorporated one or more of these ideas into their residence. In fact, any of these neon applications can be removed, placed somewhere else, or even be replaced by another idea. If you don't have any of these applicaions in your home that may be something worthwhile to consider. Neon in home decor may not be the idea for many homeowners but remember what has just been stated neon lighting in all of its above forms can be removed if it doesn't live up to your expectations. Seeing the usage of your choice in the familiar surroundings of your own home is the best way to judge what it can do to improve your home decor.

Naturally, neon as a method of home decor is not right choice for everyone.Does neon have a place in your home decorating plans? Only you know the answer to that.
